Description
Special specification shock pistons for Kyosho's Big Bore dampers, drilled with eight holes of 1.4mm diameter, supplied two to a pack.
What makes these SP pistons different from a standard piston is that the holes are drilled at an angle rather than straight through. The effect is genuinely useful: at the low shaft speeds of normal driving the angled passages let oil pass readily and the suspension stays supple over ripples and small chatter, but as shaft speed rises the angled path becomes progressively more restrictive and the damping firms up. Kyosho's own claim is that the shock moves suppley during normal driving and firms up on jump landings.
That is a velocity-sensitive, progressive characteristic that a straight-drilled piston cannot produce. In practice it means you can run a setup that soaks up rough ground without the car bottoming out on big landings, rather than having to compromise between the two.
Eight holes at 1.4mm is a large total flow area, so this is the open end of the SP range. Fitment covers the Inferno MP10, MP10 TKI2 and TKI3, MP10T, MP10e, MP9 TKI4 V2, MP9e Evo. V2 and the Inferno NEO 3.0 and 4.0 range.
