Description
A 13 tooth drive bevel gear for the differentials on Kyosho's Inferno platform.
This is the small pinion bevel that drives the large 43 tooth gear inside the diff, and the pair together transfer power from the centre driveline out to that axle. Being the smaller of the two, it turns faster and its teeth engage more often per revolution of the axle, which means it generally wears before the large gear does.
Wear is progressive rather than sudden. The tooth faces polish, then pit, then round off, and the diff gets noisier under load until teeth eventually strip. Because the two gears wear into each other, running a fresh drive bevel against a worn ring gear just chews up the new part, so replacing them as a matched pair is the sensible approach.
Mesh is set with shims and matters as much as the gears themselves. Too tight and the pair bind and run hot; too loose and they strip.
Fitment covers the Inferno MP-7.5, MP777 including the SP and World Championship versions, Inferno ST, Inferno GT and the NEO range including the NEO 4.0 VE. The MP9 generation uses a different part number.
