Traxxas 7886 X-Maxx Overdrive Gear Set (47T/24T)

Overdrive gear set for the X-Maxx transmission, containing a 47-tooth output gear, a 24-tooth input gear, and four 3x10mm flat-head screws pre-treated with threadlock.

This is a gearing change, not a repair part. Swapping to the overdrive ratio raises the truck's top speed by turning the wheels faster for a given motor RPM. If you're running big open spaces, chasing speed runs, or find the stock gearing hits its ceiling before your battery does, overdrive gearing is the straightforward way to extend the top end.

The trade-off is real and worth understanding before you buy: taller gearing reduces low-end punch and increases the load on the motor and ESC, which means more heat. On 8S that heat has to go somewhere, so overdrive is best paired with good airflow, conservative run times until you've checked temps, and a driving style that doesn't involve constant stop-and-go acceleration. Get it right and the truck feels transformed on open ground; get it wrong and you'll cook electronics.

The threadlock already applied to the included screws is a small but important detail — transmission fasteners see constant vibration, and these are not screws you want backing out mid-run.
