Grub screws — set screws — are the small fasteners that lock rotating components onto shafts. They hold pinion gears to the motor shaft, secure collars, and pin various driveline parts in place. They're also among the easiest fasteners to lose, strip, or leave behind on the bench during a rebuild, and a missing one means the part it was holding will walk loose the moment you get on the power.
Having a fresh set on hand matters more than the price suggests. A rounded-out grub screw in a pinion gear can turn a five-minute gearing change into an hour of extraction work, and a set screw that backs out at speed can let a pinion spin free on the motor shaft — chewing the shaft in the process. Replacing them as a set during maintenance is cheap insurance.
