Description
The Traxxas 2382R is a hardened steel planetary differential gear set containing four planetary gears, four shafts, two sun gears, and the gear alignment shaft.
Differential internals live a hard life. Every bit of torque the motor produces passes through these gears, and they take the shock loading of landings, wheelspin, and sudden traction changes. Standard gears eventually round off their teeth under that abuse, at which point the differential starts slipping, making noise, and delivering power inconsistently to the wheels.
Hardened steel is the answer to that. The heat treatment gives the tooth faces far greater resistance to wear and deformation than untreated alternatives, so the gears hold their profile through more running time and higher power levels. For anyone who has upgraded to a brushless system or runs larger batteries, hardened internals stop being optional fairly quickly.
The set is complete for a differential rebuild: planetary gears, their shafts, the sun gears, and the alignment shaft that keeps everything centred during assembly. That means one part number covers the wear items rather than needing several separate orders.
