The Team Associated ASC81707 spur gear is a 47 tooth, Mod 1 spur for the RC8B4.2 platform. The spur meshes with the pinion gear to set the final drive ratio, controlling the balance between punch out of corners and top speed at the end of a straight.
Changing spur gears is a fast, low cost way to tune a car to a specific track. This 47 tooth option sits between neighbouring sizes and gives a small, precise ratio adjustment when a full tooth step in either direction is more change than you want. Racers commonly carry several spur sizes so gearing can be adapted to layout changes and to keep motor and drivetrain temperatures in a safe range.
This Mod 1 spur is a direct fit for the RC8B4.2, RC8B4.2 EURO, and the electric RC8B4.2e, mounting in the stock location with no modification. Spur gears wear with use and are vulnerable to damage from debris or a mesh that has gone tight, so spares are always worth having.
