They REALLY do work!

Kadee has set the standard for couplers. For long consists, and/or tackling grades, they are mandatory. These couplers are not only "scale sized", but have wisker springs (which are MUCH easier to install than the Old School spring plate design). The Double-Shelf feature is more than for looks, they actually work to keep rolling stock coupled to each other. The old trick of merely lifting one car to clear the couplers will NOT work. The cars need to be separated with and uncoupling magnet or other uncoupling tool. This is critical when I operate on the club layout. There are some long grades. If a section of cars uncoupled, gravity would turn them into a high speed roller coaster ride to DISASTER! At a minimum, they would derail on a curve (necessitating hours of repair to the details on the rolling stock and/or layout). Worse case scenario, they would pile into another members train (which would be a permanent Black Mark on my operating record). NOT GOOD!! :-O To prevent this, I am willing to pay the money and replace those plastic pseudo couplers on RTR models.
