RC vehicles vibrate constantly from the motor, the drivetrain, and every impact the suspension absorbs, and a plain nut will gradually work its way loose in that environment. Lock nuts hold their position, which is why they are specified anywhere a fastener coming undone would cause a real failure.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe integrated flange spreads clamping load across a wider area beneath the nut. That protects composite and aluminum parts from being crushed or dented as the nut is torqued down, and it removes the need for a separate washer, which is one fewer small component to drop or lose during a rebuild.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eLock nuts are consumable by design. The locking mechanism relies on interference with the thread, and that interference wears down each time the nut is removed and refitted.
